Ists - Driver Training Academy Information Update
The Ists - Driver Training Academy has temporarily suspended operation due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Honolulu.
When the new case numbers return to single digits or the low teens for a period of 14 days and/or a vaccine becomes available, we will resume scheduling clients.
Similar to before the shutdown, all clients must possess a valid Instructioal Permit or license to enroll in the program.
Clients must be at least 18 years of age or turning 18 prior to taking the road test. DMV and/or DOE certificates will not be administered.
Clients must reside between Kahala and Kahili to enroll in the program. Clients who live in Hawaii Kai and wish to drive will be picked up and dropped off at the Kahala Mall.
The initial lesson leaves from 3312A Campbell Ave. and ends at your place of residence or, pehaps, at work, college, etc.
Sesson 2 begins at your place of residence, work, college, etc.
Both the Kapalama and Koolau test routes will taught during the course of the lessons. The client will also be expected drive on the freeway, parallel park, and park in a parking lot.
The Ists vehicle may be used to take the road if the client agrees to complete a minimum of 6 sessions and is judged competent by the instructor. Most clients find that eight sessions are necessary to develop competency.
Road tests involving the use of the Ists vehicle can ONLY be taken at the Koolau DMV and the client is expected to make an 8AM test appointment.
A clean mask must be worn when seated in the vehicle; hand sanitizer will be provided, as well as cleaning wipes.
A forehead temperature check will be taken prior to entering the vehicle. If the client's temperature is less than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, the session will proceed.
A Health Screening Questionnaire similar to one used by the DMV must be completed prior to each session.
The client must be willing to drive with the windows open so that there is air circulation and non-instructional talking will be minimized.
